About

The English Language Laboratory (Lab No. 108) at Vidya Vihar Institute of Technology is established to
strengthen the English communication skills of students. The lab plays a vital role in improving listening, speaking,
pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and professional communication skills of B.Tech students across all
branches.

The laboratory functions under the Department of Humanities / English. It is primarily designed for B.Tech 1st Year students of all branches, ensuring early exposure to communication and soft skills essential for academic and professional success. 

Objectives of the Lab

 

The major objectives of the English Language Laboratory are

• To enhance listening and speaking skills.
• To improve pronunciation, stress, intonation, and fluency.
• To develop confidence in spoken English.

• To prepare students for interviews, group discussions, and presentations.
• To support placement-oriented communication training.

Software Utilized

The lab is equipped with EXPRESS PRO – English Language Learning Software. This software provides interactive modules for listening, speaking, phonetics, vocabulary building, grammar practice, and professional communication training

Infrastructure and Systems

The English Language Lab consists of a total of 21 computer systems, including 20 student systems and 1 teacher/server system. The lab has a seating capacity of 30 students and is designed to provide a comfortable and interactive learning environment

    • LAN Connectivity and Internet Facility

Lab Activities and Working Methodology

The lab follows an interactive and student-centered approach. The teacher controls the sessions through the server system and assigns modules using Express Pro software. Students perform listening, speaking, pronunciation, and communication exercises using individual headphones and microphones.

Lab Working Hours

The English Language Laboratory operates from 9:50 AM to 3:20 PM. Lab sessions are conducted as per the academic timetable and practical schedule prescribed by the university.

The English Language Lab is utilized for Communication Skills practical classes for B.Tech 1st year students, spoken English training, soft skills development programs, placement preparation, and special communication improvement sessions.

Students are regularly assessed through speaking assignments, listening tests, and communication activities. Faculty members provide continuous feedback to help students improve their performance.

Maintenance and Upgradation

Regular maintenance of systems is carried out by the lab assistant and technical staff. Software updates, system checks, and hardware inspections are performed periodically to ensure smooth functioning.

Safety and Discipline

Students are regularly assessed through speaking assignments, listening tests, and communication activities. Faculty members provide continuous feedback to help students improve their performance.

• Maintain silence inside the lab.

• Handle headphones and equipment carefully.
• No food or drinks are allowed inside the lab.
